Job Description:

 

 Qualifications

 ● 21 years of age

 ● Certification in the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) or related certification preferred and or   riding skills needed to receive certification.

 ● Previous teaching or educational experiences.

 ● Previous horse experience in handling and riding

 

Position Responsibilities

 ● Develop lesson plans suitable to the level of the individual riding students

 ● Assign horses and tack to meet the needs of both horse and rider.

 ● Maintain written records of student progress towards goals stated by the parent/ guardian and riders.

 ● First Aid / CPR – Trained or working towards certification

 

Program

● Follow all policies and procedures as developed by Discovery Riders

● Follow all CHA standards for program and safety

● Work to build relationships with volunteers to assure program safety, aid in retention and assure consistency handling of the horses.

● Provide a variety of activities to the students whether mounted or ground lessons.

● Interact in a professional manner with parents/guardians with regard to their student’s goals and lessons. ● Be an active participant in staff meetings, continuing to meet the mission and goals of the Discovery Rider programs.

 

Essential Functions

● Ability to communicate with the Program Director and Barn Manager about student goals, horse assignments and usage for each session.

● Ability to communicate effectively with volunteers, parents/ guardians and riders of different ages and provide appropriate instruction with these participants.

● Ability to observe and assess volunteers, parents/guardians, riders behavior and it’s appropriateness.

● Ability to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and to apply appropriate behavior management techniques.

● Ability to lift 30 pounds and carry it for 100 yards

● Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards, activity related hazards and who might be in need of help.

● Ability to stand for long periods of time.
