For more than fifty years, LoveWay has been impacting the lives of children with disabilities, helping them grow, flourish, and prosper in ways that many would never dream possible.
Through the use of our equine partners, LoveWay provides compassionate care to children with disabilities in the greater Elkhart County area. In partnership with local school districts, LoveWay delivers age and ability-appropriate curriculum to school-age children with a handicap diagnosis.
Our herd of eighteen horses, an army of more than 100 volunteers, and dedicated staff are the critical pieces that equip us to deliver these services.

Position Overview
This position is responsible for all aspects of the management of the organization. The Executive Director is responsible for the administration of programming, staff, fundraising, facility management, certification, and compliance. Outreach and public relations are key elements. Delivering adaptive riding services to children with disabilities is the primary area of service to the community. The Executive Director’s position is responsible for all components to achieve this objective responsibly and effectively. Program management aligning with PATH guidelines, structure, formation, and evaluation of these programs is central to the mission. The Executive Director is responsible for budget creation, revenue management, and fiscal responsibility. The Executive Director is responsible for the management of the organization.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy Development and Planning
In collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, and other key stakeholders, the CEO develops and executes the organization’s strategic plan, long-term goals, and operational plans.
Fundraising and Donor Stewardship
- Ensures a sustainable donor base by building long-term relationships with key supporters based on mission, cultivation, stewardship, and sound fiscal management.
- Oversees and is an active participant in all fundraising activities. Is the primary external face of LoveWay and represents the organization and the value to the public at large.
Fiscal Management
- Ensures the Foundation has the financial wherewithal to thrive and deliver on its mission, including the necessary financial discipline and investment in resources needed to achieve its goals.
- Oversees the preparation and management of the annual budget including expense management.
- In conjunction with the Finance Committee, ensures the assets of the organization are invested prudently and efficiently.
Board Relations
- Cultivates partnerships with the Board of Directors and leads Board development activities.
- Assists in the recruitment and onboarding of new Board members.
- Oversees the preparation and distribution of Board/Committee materials.
- Works with the Board leadership to implement Board decisions.
Administration
- Ensures the organization has the necessary personnel to achieve its goals and mission.
- Oversees the organization’s personnel, including hiring, termination, ongoing staff development and providing verbal and/or written evaluations of staff.
- Informs the Board of Directors regarding staffing issues as appropriate.
- Ensures that employment policies are enforced and in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and LoveWay policies.
- Leads by example in developing and mentoring organization team members.
- Oversees all operational policies and guidelines for LoveWay and presents these to the Board of Directors for input and approval.
- Maintains current skills and knowledge of best practices within the field of equine assisted services, children with disabilities and education, attending seminars and professional training as appropriate.
Community Relations
- Promotes the Organization’s visibility through participation and membership in community forums, civic organizations, and activities that align with LoveWay’s mission and vision.
- Oversees a strategic marketing plan that provides a clear and concise message of the mission.
- Works to establish LoveWay as a valuable and relevant community asset, a center for maximum impact for our students.
- Works with the Volunteer Coordinator for recruitment, training and retention of community volunteers
Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for the work of LoveWay
- Senior-level management experience with bottom-line P&L responsibility, knowledge and understanding of financial documentation.
- Demonstrated leadership and success in fundraising through cultivation of donors personally and through staff and board.
- Knowledge of effective nonprofit governance practices and first-hand experience with nonprofit organizations
- Knowledge of investing, asset allocation and fund accounting
- Excellent public speaking skills and articulate written communication abilities
- Commitment to hiring, leading, and delegating to staff as a cohesive and competent team of professionals
- Project management skills that demonstrate an ability to set and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of the local community and philanthropic landscape
- Bachelor's degree required. Graduate degree preferred.
Knowledge of horses, horsekeeping or agricultural management a plus.
