Growing Riding Academy in the Bay Area looking for a Riding Instuctor/Camp Counselor

 

Under the Son Horsemanship is in need of an instructor to put a solid foundation on all our students who are brand new to our program and to riding. The ideal candidate is CHA certified (if not certified, willing to become certified), has an english background but isn’t opposed to teaching western, and is looking to become a bigger piece of our program. This position would eventually turn into a director/manager position for the right candidate. Our summer camp counselor position is also available, and can be filled independently or by the same person applying for our instructor job. Lastly, we are looking for someone who is eager to learn and grow as a horseman. The instructors at UTSH take lessons and train with the head trainer who is currently an ACI in CHA. There is also the potential to compete in Rated Hunter/Jumper shows, Rated Dressage Shows, Western Dressage shows, team sortings and schooling shows. If you own a horse that is capable of being a lesson horse, there is potentially room in the barn for them.

All of our beginner students start at our small barn in Los Gatos CA that has a seven stall shedrow, tack room, hay shed, turnout and arena. Ideally, the right candidate would learn to run this facility on their own.

Pay is $20 per lesson, with a starting rate of $18.50 per hour for the first three months. Other duties include stall cleaning, feeding, grooming, schooling lesson ponies, rotating turnout and assisting with managing the overall business. These duties are paid by the hour at $15.00 per hour.

Our current instructor has 17 students on her weekly schedule, with room to grow. Unfortunately, she is moving to Colorado in May which is why we are searching for a replacement. We currently have a very long waitlist, which means the number of students on a weekly basis will be much more than 17 per week.
