Job Description:

We are looking for a FULL-TIME equine manager for the months of October – May.

Boulder Mountain Therapy is a pediatric therapy clinic that utilizes horses as a treatment strategy for children with special needs. We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable and experienced with horses to assist with the following: 

  • Horse Care
    • Feed: implement horse diets, distribute feed, hay, and supplements 
    • Barn: clean stalls, clean waters/feeders, ensure arena for cleanliness, clean tack/feed/barn areas as needed 
    • Health: carry out regular health maintenance program, treat injuries and determine if the vet is needed, carry out medical needs, and monitor horses for lameness, back pain, or other issues 
  • Horse Selection
    • Evaluate horse for its use for equine movement
    • Ensure the horse is safe for its use as a therapy tool
  • Horse Training 
    • Develop schooling program: determine the individual equine program, match a knowledgeable volunteer to each horse to help where needed
    • Monitor the equine's needs in each therapy session
  • Horse Handling
    • Responsible for equine safety: tack horse for therapy session, monitor horses reaction during the session, be aware of possible hazards and safety problems, correctly handle horse leading, lunging, and long lining 

Along with knowledge and experience, the ideal candidate is an effective team member who will be able to communicate and supervise barn help, assist in training volunteers, and ensures the safety of all individuals involved with the use of the equine at a therapy tool.

The equine manager will report directly to the clinical director, but most importantly will supervise volunteers and therapists.

Experience and/or Educational Requirements: 

  • Education: High School Diploma 
  • Experience
    • a minimum of 10 years of riding experience
    • 2 years of teaching riding 
    • 5 years of experience in equine care and stable management
