Position:
English Riding Instructor

Company:
Red Pine Camp for Girls – Minocqua, WI , United States

Job Description:

ENGLISH RIDING INSTRUCTOR As a member of the riding department, you will share responsibility for all horse care, instruction, stable and pasture management.  The summer begins with facility preparations.  The barn, tackroom, arenas and arena equipment need to be prepared for the arrival of the horses. This includes a safety check of all horse tack and training equipment.  When the horses arrive, each one is given a health check, and fitted for its assigned saddle, pad and bridle by the riding staff.  As the horses have been pastured since the last camp season, staff evaluates each one and begins to lunge and ride them down while “reminding” them of their training.

Once the campers arrive the majority of your time will be devoted to riding instruction.  Throughout the summer the camp has six daily activity periods, Monday – Saturday.   The riding staff has its day off on Sunday.  You will help to asses each child to determine the skill level.   Riding classes are arranged so that the girls ride with others of a similar skill level.  Our flatwork includes the use cavaletti poles, and some advanced riders do low jumps.  All riding is done outdoors; we have some of the barn area set up for teaching indoors on rainy days.

At the end of the summer the riding staff cleans and prepares all of the tack for winter storage, the barn stalls are given a final clean and the tack room/office is closed up for the season.
