Job Description:

Job Summary:
• Works on a per diem basis at the rate of $20/hr. while instructing and $12/hr. class prep time, each 1 hour taught equals ½ prep time.
• Full time and Part time positions available. Salary pending experience and hours taught.

Job Duties:
• Supervises the mounting/dismounting of each program participant.
• Develops a class plan for each class dependent upon the developmental age and abilities of the participant.
• Equipment and tack selection completed by the instructor and is dependent upon the fit to the horse, size and weight of the rider, disability of the rider, and foot wear of the rider.
• Does the final tightening of the girth before mounting. Level III volunteers may tack the horse, but they are not do final tightening of the girth.
• Complete a safety tack check prior to each mounting of a rider.
• Is present and supervises each equine related activity.
• Removes the rider from the horse during an emergency dismount. Volunteers on the off side will ensure the feet of the rider are out of the stirrups prior to removal. The horse leader backs the horse from the situation once the rider is removed.
• Stirrup adjustments supervised by the instructor immediately after the rider is mounted.
• Present during all therapy sessions.
• Provides a safe environment for program participants when mounting the horses, tack checks, mounting and providing direct supervision of each equine assisted activity
• Will complete a tack integrity check prior to each class.
• Proper documentation forms completed each session on each rider-filed with the participant’s application by the instructor.
• Will be in compliance with all facility and CHA standards.
• Will supervise all volunteers in his/her class and will assign them to their class function based upon their volunteer level.
• Provides the Director with the information for the participants’ Certificate of Accomplishment at least one week prior to the end of the ten-week class session.
• Attends Instructor meetings as scheduled.
• Performs an emergency dismount in the first class of each session with each rider and volunteer.
Completes Occurrence Reports, as indicated, for incidents in their classes. Forwards to the Director within 24 hours. Calls the Executive Director if involves transportation to the hospital.
• Provides copies annually of their current CHA Instructor membership card.
• Provides copies of current CPR card annually.
• Provides a copy of their current First Aid card every 3 years.
Accountability:
• This position reports to the Executive Director
Qualifications:
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Good organizational skills
• Self-directed and detail oriented.
• Successful completion of the CHA IRD/ PATH CTRI or similar instructor certification
• Current in CPR and First Aid
