Job Description:

Heartland Girls Ranch is seeking a motivated, energetic individual for our Horse Program Director position to provide theraputic equine programming to girls ages 12-21 who resident at our long term group home facility.

The Horse Program Director is responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all the organization’s Equine programs in accordance with the standards set out by the organization, its funders and licensing. As a member of the senior management team, the Horse  Program Director participates in strategic planning and program budgeting initiatives in addition to problem solving.  He/she will assist with the development of effective program planning and implementation and provide direct supervision and support to Horse Program staff.   This is a summary of responsiblilties, the full job description will be sent upon request.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in equine studies, corrections, psychology, sociology, or related field or 4 years combined college coursework and experience. 
  • At least 3 years equine experience, which could include: providing lessons and barn or herd management.
  • 3 years of management experience in the human services and/or Equine field is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with, motivate, instruct, guide and counsel individuals who are considered at-risk and challenging.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and engage volunteers, residents, partners, and community members and effectively promote the Heartland Girls' Ranch in a positive light to the community, agencies and the courts.
  •  Ability to coordinate and supervise staff and the overall operations of the HGR program. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through verbal and written methods.
  •  Ability to manage an assaultive or physically aggressive resident (with training provided) if the need arises and the ability to be certified and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid. 
  • Ability to motivate people and maintain functional positive working relationships with co-workers by using strength-based approaches and modeling appropriate problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work outside in varying temperatures year round and to be on your feet for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge of word processing programs and basic Microsoft Office programs.
