Job Summary:

  • Ensure ongoing excellence of the Culver Academies Horsemanship Department
  • Manage all aspects of Vaughn Equestrian Center, Jud Little Riding Hall and related facilities
  • Maintain health and well-being of herd of approximately 100 horses
  • Actively engage and energize students, staff and alumni
  • Ensure policies, procedures and programs are consistently administered and aligned with safety       protocols and organizational goals.

Primary Objectives:

  • Responsible for substantial budget, ensuring smooth and cost-effective operations
  • Coordinate all activities of the Black Horse Troop, Lancer Platoon, Equestriennes, Mounted Drill, Various Varsity, Junior Varsity and Developmental Teams, Summer Schools & Camps Horsemanship and numerous other events both on and off campus
  • Manage, evaluate and mentor Director of Horsemanship Instruction, Horsemanship Instructors, Stable Manager and all Stable Staff
  • Oversee curriculum and instruction for all Equitation and Equine Science Classes, as well as Honors in Equine Science program
  • Direct all aspects of Stable Operations including personnel, herd health, animal husbandry, horse training, supply management, transportation, equipment procurement and maintenance, hay production, purchasing and selling of horses
  • Communicate regularly with Alumni, Development, and Communications Departments and serves as a liaison with the entire Culver Academies community
  • Interface and engage with Board of Trustees Horsemanship Committee.

 

Qualifications:

  • 7 – 10 years of experience to include

 – All phases of horsemanship instruction
 – Equine stable operations, agriculture, and farm equipment
 – Herd health management 

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, disciplined and able to meet deadlines. The ability to work under the pressure of many priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills: interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to meet people with ease at every level of the organization as well as the ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy and authority. The ability to write and edit effectively
  • Experience and ability to work with and manage a team of employees and subcontractors
  • Critical thinker, problem-solver
  • Experience managing a significant budget
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office, including Calendar, Word and Excel
  • Experience working within a school environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field – Business, Equine or Agriculture
  • Current valid driver’s license (chauffeurs license preferred), clean driving record
