Job Description:

Plan, direct, and supervise a safe and fun horseback riding program  

· Writes (with the help of Horseback Counselors) lesson plans that meet camp goals.  

· Evaluates riding abilities of campers and staff along with classifying horses for each rider’s skill level.   

· Delivers creative riding program activities.  

· Sets daily and session schedules for the horse program.  

· Evaluates camp horseback riding policies and procedures and give necessary input regarding any possible additions or changes.  

· Maintains appropriate camper/staff ratios at all times: 1:4.   

· Evaluates the physical soundness of each horse daily and make judgments on whether horse can be ridden each day, given noticed horse conditions.  

Train and supervise Horseback Riding Staff   

· Supervises Horseback Team to ensure they are following policies and procedures  

· Assists in the planning and implementation of staff training.  

· Trains Wrangling Staff and counseling staff in their horseback riding responsibilities.  

· Schedules and supervise Horseback Riding Team to provide a safe and high-quality program.  

· Evaluates Horseback Riding Team on their job performance weekly using a evaluation guide provided by Camp Director.  

· Requires all participants to know and articulate safety requirements.   

· Ensures daily the accurate fit of safety apparel, including helmets, shoes or boots, and long jeans.   

Manage the physical facilities and equipment in the horseback riding program  

· Sets up horseback riding area prior to and during staff training.  

· Teaches and monitor proper use of equipment.  

· Manages daily care of the camp’s horses.  

· Conducts initial and end-of-season inventory.  

· Checks equipment and make (or file for) repairs.  

· Reviews horses for health needs, behavior issues, and tack needs.  

· Conducts daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.  

· Submits orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials.  

· Assists in packing all materials and supplies at the end of the season.
